Exotic Shorthair Cat: Facts & Trivia

The Exotic Shorthair is a cross between Persians and American Shorthairs. Also known as the lazy man’s Persian, because their short, dense, fluffy fur is nearly maintenance free, while Persian’s have to be combed daily.

Exotic Shorthair Appearance: 

Exotic Shorthair cats are medium sized cats weighing 7-12 pounds (3.2-5.4 kg). They have flat faces, cobby bodies, short legs, broad chests and round heads. Their fur is medium-dense, and plush with a thick undercoat. Their coats come in many colors and patterns including, white, black, silver, golden, tabby, and bicolor

Exotic Shorthair have large, round eyes in variety of colors depending on coat color.Their wide set eyes, flat face, and pug nose result in a permanent kitten look. 

Exotic Shorthair cats mature slowly, taking about two years to reach maturity. Breeding two Exotic Shorthair cats can produce a longhair Exotic. 

Exotic Shorthair cats have a lifespan of 10-15 years.

Exotic Shorthair Temperament: 

Exotic Shorthair cats are slightly more active than their Persian cousins, but still extremely laid back lap cats. They are very attached to their family and do well with other cats and dogs. They are ideal cats for city or apartment dwellers, however they do not like being left alone for long periods of time. 

These cats play will play endlessly with a fishing pole toy. They are also surprisingly good mousers.
